For Parents
Year 10
All pupils at Stokesley School follow the Core Science course in year 10 which counts as a GCSE.
Pupils take a total of 6 module tests which count towards the final grade along with several ISA tasks and exams. The first two modules B1a and C1a, are taken around November. The second two, P1a and B1b, are taken around March and the last two, C1b and P1b, are taken in June.
The exact dates for the tests vary from year to year and are set by the exam board. The tests can only be done on certain days so if a pupil is absent on a particular test date then on the next one they will have to take four tests. Pupils should therefore make every effort to attend on these dates.
Details of what the pupils actually need to know is on the Core Science pages of this website. There is detailed information about what information the pupils need to recall along with revision questions for most of the modules. It has been put there for students to use to revise for module tests which most of our pupils do.
Pupils are required to be assessed on an aspect of science wich the exam boards call How Science Works. This covers investigative skills, how to record and process data effectively and much of the terminology we use in science. This is assessed in the Investigative Skills Assessments that the students do and in every module test there are several questions which are based on this aspect. Details of what the pupils need to know is again on the Core Science pages.
