Convection

remember  ---   HOT AIR RISES

Hot liquids rise too. Cold liquids and gases sink. Why?

Here are some other examples of heat energy on the move due to convection.

The oil is heated by a lamp at the bottom. It rises, cools then falls. Groovy eh! The heating element in an electric kettle is a t the bottom. This way it heats all the water. Our weather is mostly due to convection currents. Hot air rises above warm land and sink in cooler places. The difference causes wind. This bird is riding a thermal. Hot air rising above warm land.
