What Plants Compete For

To survive, organisms require a supply of materials from their surroundings and from the other living organisms there.

Plants often compete with each other for light and for water and nutrients from the soil

Within any habitat there are limited resources which all the organisms must compete for.

Plants need

  • Sunlight
  • Water
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Nutrients
  • Space

With so many different plants in the same space there is much competition for these resources. Different species have adapted so as to increase their chance of getting the resources they need to survive.
