REMEMBER
The body has different ways of protecting itself against pathogens.
White blood cells help to defend against pathogens:
− by ingesting pathogens
− by producing antibodies which destroy particular bacteria or viruses
− by producing antitoxins which counteract the toxins (poisons) released by
pathogens.
