Physics Equations
You MUST learn you equations if you want to do well. There will be lots of marks for using them.
Here is a summary of the equations you need to know and what the quantities in them mean. (Red = HIGHER ONLY)
Mechanics Equations
| Speed (or velocity) (m/s) How fast an object is moving. What distance it covers in a certain time. (velocity = in a certain direction) |
| Acceleration (m/s2) How quickly the speed of an object is increasing. |
| Force (Newtons, N) A push or pull that can change the shape of an object or change its state of motion. |
| Weight (Newtons, N) The force of attraction due to gravity. |
| Work (Joules, J) The energy transferred when a force acts over a certain distance. |
| Momentum (kg m/s) An object's mass x its velocity. Whether it is + or - depends on its direction of motion. |
Kinetic Energy (Joules, J) The energy an object has because it is moving. |
Electricity Equations
| Power (Watts, W) How much energy a device transfers every second Energy Transferred
(Joules, J) |
| Voltage or Potential Difference (Volts, V) The amount of energy that the charge flowing through a device transfers
Current (Amps, A) |
Charge (Coulombs, C) This flows in a circuit carrying energy. Electrons carry a negative charge. |
