Car going over a hump
A car of mass 1500kg goes over a hump back bridge of radius 25m at a speed of 12m/s.
a) If the car were travelling on a level road what two equal and opposite vertical forces would be acting on it?
b) Explain why the forces are not equal as the car goes over the bridge. Which is bigger?
c) Calculate the centripetal acceleration of the car.
d) The faster the car is travelling the smaller the normal contact force between it and the ground. At what speed would the normal contact force be zero? ( i.e. when the resultant force is equal to the weight of the car )
