Your Sources Sheet
You are required to identify what sources you used to write your report and what information you got from each one.
I suggest you use a minimum of 7 sources. Remember that there should be a variety of sources, not just a list of websites. To get full marks you should cross check your information, i.e. if there is any doubt try to find the same information from a different source.
Present your sources in the form of a table. My suggestions for column headings are below along with a few examples.
| Source | What the source is | Its URL, author, other documentation | What information it provided | Evaluation |
| a letter you will use
for referencing. a, b, c etc. |
Not just a web address. Its proper title. | Volume, issue number. ISBN number. | How useful it was. Was it an appropriate level. Was it biased / reliable? | |
| a | Wikipedia Online encyclopaedia |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Hubble_Space_Telescope
|
General information about the History of the telescope | Nothing controversial in this article and a good list of references |
| b | NASA website |
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ hubble/main/index.html |
Lots of information about every aspect. What onboard instruments are on HST. Agreed with source a on all points. | Excellent and reliable. Not too technical. Very attractive and readable. Possibly biased towards its benefits. |
| c | To Infinity and Beyond | BBC Horizon program from 2008 available on iplayer | Information about Virgin Galactic's plans for space tourism | A bit dated and not very technical though very entertaining. |
Referencing
In the body of your report you may show where you got certain chunks of information from by putting the letter in the table above in the margin. This is called referencing. It is a good way of showing exactly where you got your data.
Cross Checking
There are marks available for evidence that you have checked / verified your information, i.e. is the same information displayed in another source. If there are any contradictions you should note them. You should also try to identify any bias.
