Writing It Up

Here is a suggested layout for your report.

Title page

Contents page

Introduction / aims
What are you trying to find out? Why did you choose this topic? Who might your findings be useful to?

Experiment 1

Method
This could be done as step by step bullet points. Skill and care should be used in obtaining reliable accurate results.

Labeled diagram
Clear illustrations. Perhaps a few photos.

Safety
Identify any safety issues. There are marks for this so it needs to be somewhere. (Even stuff on the floor can be a trip hazard).

Table of results
A good range of data is collected and displayed clearly and correctly. Degree of uncertainty is indicated.

Errors
How were random errors and uncertainty minimised?

Graph
These are chosen to display the data to best effect. Uncertainty bars as appropriate.

Analysis / conclusions
The relationships between variables is identified and discussed in terms of the relevant physics.

Experiment 2   …..    as above and for each experiment

Overall analysis and conclusions
Discuss your choice of experiments here, i.e. this is where you show evidence of progression and development.

How does the degree of uncertainty due to your procedures affect the uncertainty of your conclusions?

If your investigation is based on a real life situation what useful conclusions might be acted upon, e.g. what would be a suitable minimum depth for a diving pool?

Appendices

Large tables of results that would clutter up the body of the report

References if appropriate.
