Choose a Topic

You should choose a clearly defined problem which offers scope for genuine investigation, i.e. you don’t know what patterns may be uncovered.

Every student should choose their own topic and work on it individually. Your teacher will tell you if you have chosen something suitable.

You could base it on a hobby (e.g. mechanical properties of climbing ropes)

You could base it on something related to the degree that you hope to do. You can then mention it on your UCAS form and have the opportunity to discuss it in any interviews.

Do not choose an investigation that relies on a complex rig as much time could be wasted building it and getting it to work properly.

Choose a topic that will need just basic standard laboratory equipment (masses, string, power supplies etc). If you need things like oscilloscopes, signal generators etc let you teacher know in advance.
